Lists

While it's important to get as much info up onto the wiki as possible, lists should be avoided. With a group of similar items (like the potential list of 666 layers of the Abyss) writing a brief paragraph under the heading Layers of the Abyss describing the group as a whole (ie. there are 666 of them, they are constantly changing, each is ruled by a powerful demon lord, etc.) and then mentioning maybe two or three examples as part of the conclusion of the paragraph looks much nicer and maintains encyclopedic formatting. This paragraph could precede a Full article: Layers of the Abyss link, which would then lead to a definitions list for all known layers and links to longer articles on layers which have them. I think the Tribes of the Shoanti and language pages should serve as good examples in this regard. -- yoda8myhead 21:56, 24 April 2009 (UTC)

Move to Outer Rifts (resolved)

Per Tier 1 Rage of Elements and its pre-release blog post, particularly Paizo staff comments on it. Outer Rifts already redirects to Abyss, so in terms of navigation and discovery this is just elevating an existing alternate name to the primary name. All corresponding links here should also eventually be changed, but that shouldn't block renaming this article. -Oznogon (talk) 18:32, 17 August 2023 (UTC) Resolved -Oznogon (talk) 04:12, 20 January 2024 (UTC)

River Styx

Removed this phrase, which cites The Inner Sea World Guide 242, emphasis mine:

The Outer Rifts are possessed of many layers strung together by the River Styx.

The emphasized assertion does not appear in the cited source. ISWG 241 suggests the Styx "filters out into the other Lower Planes" from Abaddon but does not mention the Abyss by name. The section about the Abyss on 242 does not mention the River Styx. The usage of "strug together" in this context has also resulted in confusion about the nature of the Styx in the Abyss.

Horsemen of the Apocalypse 27 states that the Styx "cascades into the deepest reaches of the Abyss". Gods and Magic 24 describes "the Styx’s tributaries toward the Abyss". Book of the Damned only describes the Styx passing through Cerebulim, Everglut, Ishiar, Kurnugia, the Midnight Isles (270), Moonbog, and Undersump (271). -Oznogon (talk) 07:57, 1 February 2024 (UTC)
