Archetype vs. Prestige Class vs. In-world concept vs. Organization
We now have two different classes for winter witches: the archetype from p. 43 of Inner Sea Magic and the prestige class from p. 62-63 of Paths of Prestige. As far as I can tell from glancing through Irrisen, Land of Eternal Winter, there is no in-world distinction between the two, although the archetype is only used for the "generic" stat blocks for the "winter witch baroness" and "winter witch cold sister" on p. 62 of that book; all of the named winter witches have levels in the prestige class and not the archetype.
The main issue for us, is that this page is the current default page for the in-world concept of winter witches, but has the "(archetype)" designation. There is also the Winter Witch page, but that refers to the book by Elaine Cunningham. I would recommend that we rename this page Winter witch (the word "witch" should not be capitalized in any case) and have it refer to the archetype, prestige class, in-world concept, and the organization, and leave Winter Witch as the book page title. We could have separate pages for the prestige class, archetype, organization, and the in-world concept, but I think it's better to keep everything together and focus on the term as an in-world concept. - Well argued and spotted, Brandingopportunity (certainly better than Hoarfrost province, grumble, grumble). Interestingly the Winter Witch Cold Sister is Female human witch (winter witch) 5/winter witch 5: so both PrC and archetype, so there is an in-game and in-world distinction and Paizo hasn't decided to supersede one with the other. I don't think this invalidates your point though and a combined page would make sense, so long as the right infoboxes (org and PrC) and categories were applied. We can always split it later. Yes, it should be Winter witch (lower case), so Winter Witch (archetype) needs deleting/moving. We should also have a disambiguation on the novel's page and the new page as well. --Fleanetha (talk) 17:05, 31 January 2013 (UTC)
