A juju zombie is an undead creature that is raised from the dead via magic after having its life essence drained. Unlike common zombies, juju zombies retain all of their memories and abilities from their former lives.12

While the creation of juju zombies can be a part of juju practices, outsiders often exaggerate the relationship between the two. The spiritual faith encompasses many other aspects, and many practitioners do not engage in the creation of undead beings.34

Misidentification

Due to the poorly known nature of juju outside of its practitioners, some forms of juju-enabled dominance over beings are mistaken for juju zombies. Enchantment or soul theft can result in a living being that appears dead or is as compliant as a juju zombie, but is not undead. Such victims are sometimes known as laubo.3
