Mvashti's Place is a large manor house in Sandpoint that was converted to a hostel after the death of its owner, the beloved Varisian elder Niska Mvashti,1 for whom the building was once known as Madame Mvashti's House.2

Location

Mvashti's Place is located at 50 Festival Street,1 just north of the Sandpoint Market.1

History

Known generally as Madame Mvashti, Niska Mvashti had lived in this house since the founding of Sandpoint in 4666 AR.2 An accomplished Harrow reader,3 she was a respected oracle for the local community.21

The home was built as a concession for the atrocities the native Varisians of the area suffered at the hands of the ethnically Chelaxian4 settlers during the early years of Sandpoint's history. Already old at that time, Madame Mvashti complained that she was getting too frail for the traveling lifestyle of Varisians and wanted to settle down.2

It was agreed that the house would revert to communal property upon her death. To the chagrin of some local residents, she proved remarkably long-lived.2 After her death, the building was converted into a hostel for traveling Varisians operated by the witch Jiolan Verneeth, who is welcoming to those who stay but has little tolerance for those who disrepect Varisian traditions.1
