Elara's Halfway House

From PathfinderWiki

Elara's Halfway House was an orphanage in Darkmoon Vale located on a hill at the edge of Darkmoon Wood eight miles from Falcon's Hollow. It burned down under suspicious circumstances around 4707 AR with everyone within already dead, leaving it a fire-blackened ruin.1

History

Elara founded the orphanage in 4697 AR during the Goblinblood Wars in nearby Isger.2 She chose the isolated location to insulate the children from the seedier elements of Falcon's Hollow.34 It survived the Night of Silver Blood untouched.

An orphan at the house named Jeva, whose parents were killed in a werewolf attack, had also been bitten in the ordeal, and her own lycanthropy emerged while living at the Halfway House. After Jeva transformed into a werewolf and killed three other children, Elara detained her in a closet, then later shackled her to the wall of a basement and attempted to cure her by harming her with silvered knives and whips.35

Jeva eventually broke free from captivity, killed Elara for her torturous attempts at treatment, killed the House's other orphans, and burned the building down.65

Aftermath

With little information on what occurred, the residents of Falcon's Hollow believed the fire was either an accident, arson, or the act of some malevolent being in Darkmoon Wood.4 Despite its distance from town and proximity to the Wood and rumors of the site being haunted, children would sometimes dare each other to explore the ruins.7

The young werewolf escaped and continued to stalk the Wood as of 4708 AR,6 sometimes luring children from Falcon's Hollow or travelers to the Wood to devour them.8
