Letter of Mark

A letter of mark, also called a letter of marque, is a government license authorizing an independent person to attack and capture enemy ships. Such people are often known as privateers.1

Andoren privateers
The Office of Privateering Actions, a division of the Andoren Navy, grants letters of marque to Andoren privateers and tracks their actions.2
Zimar Corsairs
Each captain of Zimar Corsairs gets a Letter of Mark that both identifies him as a full captain of the Taldan Imperial Navy and grants him some legal protection in the case of falling into the hands of the enemy.3
