Mallaru (pronounced mal-ya-ru)1 is the sole port city of the nation of Linvarre, which was previously the Taldan colony of Amanandar. The city is a recent expansion of the new nation's territory into lands formerly claimed by Shenmen and is located where the Ilushe River empties into the Sea of Ghosts.2

History

The site of Mallaru is the ancestral land of the Tagamallaru people of the Specterwood and Sea of Ghosts, who lived in separate communities across the area prior to the arrival of General Orphyrea Amanandar and the Eighth Army of Exploration from Taldor.2

The settlements had faced an assault by the undead army of the deposed bandit lord Tsubokandu, which General Amanandar's forces defeated. In the process, General Amanandar claimed the disparate communities under the single name of Mallaru without their consent.2

People

Mallaru's buildings were largely constructed by Taldans seeking opportunities for sea trade, and the settlement has since grown as a fusion of Taldan, Tian, and Tagamallaru cultures.2

Their worship is similarly a combination of ancestor and spirit veneration with Taldan deities and local saints, with communities built around gothic cathedrals that serve as centers of both community and worship. Mallaru fiestas celebrate their heritage by recreating ancestral traditions in Taldan styles, resulting in a uniquely expressed aesthetic of their past.2
