The Praenomen amulet is a magic item of Osirian rulership designed by Pharaoh Rehenet II. It was lost in the final months of the Fallen Pharaoh Menedes XXVI's rule when Keleshite agents ambushed its wearer, Menedes' Royal Envoy Wesefor, on a barge traveling from Sothis to An. The envoy, her staff, and their barge were discarded into the River Sphinx to be consumed by hetkoshus as the Keleshite attackers were unaware of the Praenomen's significance.1

Appearance

The amulet is made of two pieces of bronze, one an engraved oval plate and the other a cobra-shaped counterweight. The plate is engraved with the cartouche of its owner, and its powers are conferred to their loyal subjects. The two pieces are joined by chains.1

History

The Verdant Pharaoh Rehenet II created the Praenomen, the greatest of the arcane items she designed to reinforce her rule, to empower her envoys enforcing her will.1

It was claimed by Menedyeb IV, Rehenet's half-sister and the person who usurped her, who learned that changing the cartouche engraved on the amulet also transferred its powers. Subsequent pharaohs claimed the Praenomen when transferring power over Osirion.1
