Inperantike Rakiendos was ruler of the ancient Jistka Imperium in northwestern Garund during the Age of Destiny. During his short reign, he commissioned the building of the Hanging City of Teskra in the Napsune Mountains in -3429 AR after traveling to the Eternal Oasis during his youth. His intention in doing so was to replicate the beauty of the Oasis in an urban setting.2 Rakiendos also abducted the master artisan Akamale and forced him to craft his mechanical marvels.3 These creations, most famously mechanical replica of animals, were displayed in the extensive Pleasure Gardens of Rakiendos in Teskra. After a lavish feast and celebration in honor of Rakiendos' 12th year of rule, however, the inperantike and many of his guests succumbed to a disease that brought on insanity and eventually killed Rakiendos in -3428 AR. This disease is assumed to have been due to the cursed nature of the Hanging City of Teskra. Following his death, Markus Selaezios, general of Jistka's Third Legion, declared a fast and public penance for Rakiendos' supposed infractions, after which he took Rakiendos' wife as his own and placed himself upon the Jistkan throne. Soon thereafter, the Hanging City fell into swift decline as its residents mysteriously began to disappear. The city was finally completely abandoned in -3388 AR when the last of its inhabitants stripped off their clothing and walked off into the mountains, never to be heard from again.45
