Not OGL

The Coeurl is not OGL and is specifically listed as being product identity in the volume in which it appeared. I am still unclear what this means for us in terms of its inclusion in the wiki. Anyone care to offer some insights? —yoda8myhead 18:29, April 2, 2010 (UTC)

I would say since it's not Paizo's IP, they can't give us full permission to reproduce. I think that what we havenow should be good. (the info box and the index) and include a 'Not Paizo IP' template (since we already have 2 examples - this and the deep crow) -- Cpt kirstov 05:02, April 5, 2010 (UTC)
That's odd; this is what it says about it in my copy of The End of Eternity:"Product Identity: The following items are hereby identified as Product Identity, as defined in the Open Game License version 1.0a, Section 1(e), and are not Open Content: All trademarks, registered trademarks, proper names (characters, deities, artifacts, places, etc.), dialogue, plots, storylines, locations, characters, artwork, and trade dress."
However, it does mention separately that the coeurl had to be okayed by the Ashley Grayson Literary Agency. Is that the difference?

Yup, the separate mention means that it was used on a one time license, and Paizo doesn't have the authority to give the OK to make the Coeurl open content. Same thing happened with Penny Arcade's Deep Crow in PF 16. -- 02:55, June 22, 2010 (UTC)
I think we can safely include what we've got here, as it's not much more than the wikipedia article about coeurl, but I know for a fact that Paizo can't and won't ever include it or make reference to it in any future products, so this will be all we can ever really include in the project. And we should also be amenable to any requests to remove or limit its content if asked to do so. I think this level of coverage is both adequate and safe, and if we were to do the same with the deep crow, it would also be fine. —yoda8myhead 05:55, June 22, 2010 (UTC)

I was wondering if we should perhaps include a small footnote at the bottom that this creature is from the stories of A.E. Van Vogt? I had no idea myself until I was reading about Vogt and came across the Space Beagle stories with references to the Coeurl, and recognized it. Maybe just a small note at the bottom? I think it would be very nice, showcasing both the extremely literate nature of Pathfinder's mythology, and yet another of it's homages to classic pulp weird fiction along with it's references to Edgar Rice Burroughs, Lovecraft, et. al. "Hei! Aa-shanta 'nygh! You are off! Send back earth's gods to their haunts on unknown Kadath, and pray to all space that you may never meet me in my thousand other forms. Farewell, Randolph Carter, and beware; for I am Nyarlathotep, the Crawling Chaos!" 16:22, 28 September 2013 (UTC)
