Janns2 are the weakest members of geniekind. Composed of all elements, they most often live and travel across the Universe.34
Appearance
Janns appear almost human, but have a definite mystical air to them, something that makes them both admired and distrusted by actual humans. Janns stand at least six feet tall and carry themselves with an unnatural grace. The only other giveaway to their nature is their eyes, which sparkle with an unnatural brightness.3
Habitat and ecology
Update needed |
Janns favour the quiet isolation of the deepest desert and the most remote oases.3 Unlike other genies, janns have no home elemental plane; instead they roam across the Material Plane.5 They keep their distance from humans, whom they distrust. They are drawn to places of natural beauty like the Painted Flutes and other natural wonders. Janns are unique amongst genies in that rather than being composed of a single element, they are instead made of a combination of all. Despite their human appearance (which, if pointed out, would quickly offend), they are much stronger than they initially appear.3
Should a jann overcome their distrust of humans and procreate with one, the resulting child is a half-jann, whose offspring with humans are called sulis.6
Jann nobles are alternatively called amirs, and are the only genie nobles unable to grant wishes.7
- For other meanings of "Amir", please see Amir (disambiguation).
Abilities
Janns have bodies comprised of all elements, granting them reistence to injury from a wide verity of magical and mundane things relating to the elements.54 They can also call upon a single element from their being to empower their strikes and cast a related arcane spell.54
They have a airs of commanding, that is especially effective on non-jann genies.54
When the Elemental Planes of Wood and Metal spontaneously re-emerge in 4723 AR 89, the lost elements were added into the janns' being. Some speculate this whill evntaully affect the minds of jann. Some Jann feel all now six elements, others stick with the well known other four or not a good connection with Wood and Metal5.
Jann are able to change shape into animals5 while Shuyookhs can do elementals.4
Unlike other genies, all jann can naturally grant wishes to mortals, not just the Shuyookh, which other genie kind can only do so through passed down rituals to replicate this innate jann ability. Many Janns typically twist the wishes they grant that gravitates towards growth and exploration.54
On Golarion
Clans of nomadic janns roam the deserts of Kelesh. They encourage their suli kinsmen to brag about their achievements and interact with humans, in the hope of making good impressions and softening the Keleshite government's stance on genie slavery.1011
