History

An early picture of Valeros and Amiri.

Early life

Valeros was born to subsistence farmers in rural Andoran. As a young boy, Valeros struggled with academic pursuits, perhaps due to dyslexia, and dreamed of becoming an Eagle Knight. His father, Jamek, wanted a simple life for the boy after his brothers, including one named Johkhan, had all died following their wizard mother, Valeros' grandmother, in a life of adventure.3

Early career

Valeros acquired his iconic swords while employed by the Aspis Consortium, saying that while they tend to conduct disreputable business, they like to have well-equipped employees.4

The spurned farmer's daughter who Valeros abandoned at the altar eventually confronted him after her father put a bounty on hauling the fighter back home. Valeros admitted to having been an idiot then—and at her prompting, to still being an idiot—and apologized for hurting her. She did not necessarily forgive him, but also acknowledged that she was not exactly angry at him anymore either.5

Valeros later found himself in the stocks after a drunken night in Crowstump, and was hired after regaining his freedom by a caravan headed to Korvosa through Bloodsworn Vale. Along the way, he met and befriended fellow guard, Amiri. In truth, the caravan was transporting a diabolic relic called the Sycorian Stone, which Valeros and Amiri were magically compelled to return to its abandoned temple in the Vale. When Valeros was commanded to kill Amiri, he threw off the influence of the caravan sorcerer's spell. The sorcerer, Zemora, revealed her plan to sacrifice Amiri to release the devil within the relic, but Amiri killed her. In order to make up for their promised wage, which had been a lie from the start, the pair sold the Sycorian Stone to the Jeggare Museum before parting ways. In Korvosa, Valeros met up with his longtime adventuring companions, Seoni, Ezren, and Merisiel, and the adventurers found their way to Sandpoint from there.4
