Clockwork technology

From PathfinderWiki

Clockwork technology is a form of technology that relies on precision mechanical devices that use a power supply often composed of springs or weights to drive a series of gears.1 It is among the most common forms of technology on Golarion, where the Clockwork Cathedral of Absalom is a center of its research and development, and frequently associated with constructs.2

History

The technological understanding to build non-magical clockwork devices was first developed over 10,000 years ago in Azlant, and later perfected in Thassilon. Even though Earthfall destroyed most examples of their work, a few constructs survived the apocalypse.3 Many principles were rediscovered or newly innovated by inventors and researchers, and the resurfacing of New Thassilon revived some of its ancient techniques.4

Functionality

Clockwork devices rely on stored kinetic energy, typically by winding a device's power supply. The device's mechanical components then often amplify the stored energy or deploy it over a long duration.2
