Talking board

From PathfinderWiki

Talking boards provide a means for spirits of a haunted place to communicate with people during a seance, or to reveal subconscious insights as part of an individual self-exploration.1

Appearance

Most talking boards are mundane rectangular wooden boards with letters, numbers, and affirmative and negative messages arranged in an arch. During a seance, one or more psychically sensitive practitioners touches a three-legged heart-shaped pointer, which is then guided by the spirit during a seance into the automatic writing of its responses to questions. During a personal exploration, the user's own subconscious guides the pointer, which can incorporate hypnotism to recall memories unavailable to the conscious mind.1

Magic talking boards are magic items infused with divination magic that allows them to be used to communicate with spirits, even when not in the presence of a haunt and without requiring the presence of a psychically sensitive practitioner.2

Spirit planchettes are magical pointers made of brass, cold iron, or silver that can be used once daily with any smooth surface bearing letters, including a mundane talking board, to communicate with spirits during a seance. Each listed type of metal is increasingly useful during the seance, allowing more questions to be answered with greater accuracy.3
