Brahi Ektar is a pagala rakshasa who oversees trade in Niswan as the city's treasurer or zaiwara. Pagala is the lowest of the rakshasa castes and means "traitor", designating any who have veered away from rakshasa norms.

After he left the jungles of his native Vudra for Jalmeray, Brahi swore fealty to the thakur. As he grew nervous about the various plots threatening the ruling class and the Houses of Perfection, Brahi started spending his copious free time foiling such plots, something that drew the attention of Aditya, who offered him the job of managing Niswan's budget. While he casually deals with most plots, Brahi pines for a foe truly dangerous enough to test his mettle.

Brahi arrived in Niswan with a hoard of wealth, and is now one of the richest people in Jalmeray thanks to the income from his financial services.
