Countess Ekaterina is the ruler of the heavily fortified town of Vasterborg in the Irriseni province known as the Verge. She machinated her assignment to this remote settlement, where she stockpiled wealth and prepared for the power struggle to follow Baba Yaga's return in 4713 AR and expected removal of Queen Elvanna.[1]
