Plagiarism
Checking the sources for this, it seems that complete sentences have been lifted from Dark Markets and then rearranged. While it's not copying a whole passage verbatim, using even a complete sentence constitutes plagiarism. Please be aware of this, as a page which is determined to be plagiarism will be deleted entirely and would need to be started over from scratch. Please review Help:Plagiarism for more information. -- yoda8myhead 15:30, 28 May 2009 (UTC)
Typo =/= alternate spelling
I'm not sure we need to specifically call out instances in which typos or errors made it into print as an "alternate spelling". It's not an alternate spelling, it's an error. I'm cool with a redirect from the incorrect spelling in case someone's searching for that term, but we don't need to shine a spotlight on it. A real-world article about "President Barrick Obama" wouldn't be cited as an alternate spelling, just an error.— Yoda8myhead (talk) 19:05, 29 July 2019 (UTC)
- Hello Yoda. This is a bit tricky as there's little way to determine which version is the correct version if it is a typo, or whether it is indeed an alternative spelling. Applying the usual canon rules are not as effective as usual here, as typos can occur in Tier 1 as easily as in Tier 2 sources. For instance, what is the correct spelling for this chap? 'Hasbim' is 2018 Tier 1 provenance. Now, if something is a definite typo, I agree, it should not be in the main text as an alternative but neither should there be a redirect from a typo, which could just replicate the error with the auto-fill feature. In those cases, I'd prefer a ref at the bottom stating exactly the case or a conflict marker to help those with the misspelt source as we've done before. --Fleanetha (talk) 19:38, 29 July 2019 (UTC)
- When in doubt, there are the Paizo messageboards where a permanent clarification from Paizo staff can be referenced on the wiki. We should inquire there about any corner cases. As a member of the Paizo team, I can tell you that we're not likely to intentionally provide two different but similar names for the same character without specifically calling them out as aliases within the diegesis of the setting. As always, the footnotes feature is the perfect place to call out the discrepancies that come from such errors, and for citing the wiki policy and/or editorial staff clarification that specified the correct version. In this case, there's a new Tier 1 source coming out in a few weeks that corrects the error (Lost Omens World Guide page 52).— Yoda8myhead (talk) 20:12, 29 July 2019 (UTC)
