Template:Refs

From PathfinderWiki
Template documentation (for the above template, sometimes hidden or invisible)
Subpages of this template:

Use {{refs}} to quickly provide a list of inline references, such as those created by {{Ref}}, {{Cite}} or {{Cite web}}, at the bottom of an article.

Template

{{Refs}}

Usage

{{Refs}} automatically splits long lists of citations into a sensible number of columns for ease of reading. This is an enhancement added to later versions of mediawiki that means editors no longer need to manually determine the number of columns required (see below). {{Refs}} should always be used as follows and appear below the main body of page text but before categories and navboxes:

== References ==

{{Refs}}

Manually determining index columns

{{Refs}} can still optionally take a number of columns for the references list as a parameter. This capability was needed before later versions of mediawiki split references automatically and is no longer required. The capability is documented here for historical purposes and because this use may still be found on many pages throughout the wiki.

Note that how and whether columns are used depends on the skin being used and the width of the browser window. It was almost always appropriate to manually split references into two columns if 10 or more sources were cited in one article.

Usage of manual split

{{Refs|(whole number greater than 1)}}

Example of manual split

Golarion is round.{{Ref|Distant Worlds|14}}{{Ref|The Inner Sea World Guide|1|400}}

{{Refs|2}}

results in:

Golarion is round.12

  1. James L. Sutter. “Chapter 1: The Solar System” in Distant Worlds, 14. Paizo Inc., 2012
  2. James Jacobs, et al. The Inner Sea World Guide, 1–400. Paizo Inc., 2011

Meta pages and unincorporated sources

If an article has a corresponding page in the Meta namespace, {{Refs}} links to it in a sentence pointing to its list of unincorporated sources. To disable this link, use the nometa parameter:

{{Refs|nometa=yes}}
