{{Spell}} is for use in any article about a spell within the Pathfinder campaign setting. All parameters are optional. If left undefined, the parameters other than name and type do not appear. This template has been stripped down to include only those essential "crunchy" statistics; those that remain allow us to categorize, compare, and sort spells. Omit all other crunchy details.
Usage
{{Spell | image = | name = | aon1e = | aon2e = | traits = | tradition = | rank = | school = | descriptor = | domain = | level = | imagesof = | 1e-source = | 1e-page = | 2e-source = | 2e-page = | footnote = }}
source and page to cite either First or Second Edition only, but not both:
| source = | page = }}
1e- and 2e-source and page to cite both First and Second Edition simultaneously:
| 1e-source = | 1e-page = | 2e-source = | 2e-page = }}
If the article is about a spell-related topic, such as a ritual, add this line to the top of the template with the type of the spell-like ability (see below).
| type =
Parameters
- type (optional)
- The type of spell, to be set only if this is a spell-like ability that isn't a spell (such as an occult ritual), otherwise it must be deleted from the template to ensure correct formatting. If omitted, "Spell" is used.
- image (optional)
- A File link to an associated image. For example: File:Fireball.jpg. Should be given without
[[]]
or any settings. - name (optional)
- The name of the spell. Pretty straightforward. If omitted, the article's page name is used. Spell names are italicized.
- traits (optional/2e)
- The trait(s) of the spell as listed. Use the 2e trait template for this to create the correct boxes, for instance, {{2eTrait|Illusion}}, which provides
- tradition (optional/2e)
- The tradition of the spell as listed. You can call {{Spell2e/****}} with the initial letter(s) of the tradition's name, without any spaces or other characters, in the order "adop", instead of "****" here, and it will be auto-categorised by tradition. e.g., {{Spell2e/adop}}
- rank (optional/2e)
- The lowest rank for this spell in 2E. Include the descriptor, such as Spell, Focus, Cantrip, Ritual, before the level number: "Spell 2". 2e-level is an alternative name for this parameter.
- school (optional/1e)
- The hyperlinked school of the spell as listed, including the subschool in parentheses if applicable. For example: Conjuration (Summoning)
- descriptor (optional/1e)
- Acid, air, chaotic, cold, darkness, death, earth, electricity, evil, fear, fire, force, good, lawful, light, mind-affecting, sonic, or water. Bear in mind that not all spells have descriptors.
- domain (optional/1e)
- The domain of the spell (only for divine).
- level (optional/1e)
- List the class (hyperlinked) and level for each of the classes who can cast this spell in 1E.
- imagesof (optional)
- The name of the category that contains images of this spell, which appears as a link to the category page. For instance, an imagesof value of fireball will create a link to Category:Images of fireball with the link text "Images of fireball".
- source & page (optional)
- The source wherein the spell was first mentioned, or from which the most information is available. Link the title, and include page number if possible. Use this only if you have a source and page for either 1E or 2E, but not both.
- aon1e,aon2e (optional)
- Can contain a link to an Archive of Nethys page, starting after the first slash (e.g.
Monsters.aspx?ID=490
) - footnote (optional)
- A footnote specific to the infobox, if required, such as to note legacy details or cite sources with additional context.
- 1e-source, 1e-page, 2e-source, & 2e-page (optional)
- The source wherein the spell was first mentioned, or from which the most information is available, in both 1E and 2E. Link the title, and include page number if possible. Use this only if you have a source and page for both editions.
