Nation

Vestige is a town in the First World inhabited by fey fascinated by the alien concept of mortality.1

People

Residents of Vestige construct their homes and businesses in the shape of crypts, cathedrals, or mausoleums, deliberately designed to look ruined. They wear mourning clothes and mimic funereal rites across the Material Plane, taking turns playing the role of the corpse and inflicting wounds on themselves to get into character. The most devoted even have themselves buried alive in the cemeteries near town, although most simply record their names and deeds on headstones. These graveyards are also home to corpse eaters like sangois, who force those playing dead to take pause.1

Vestige's inhabitants sometimes buy mortals to be publicly executed, so they might better understand the concept of dying. Such mortals are often dissected on stage in an elaborate, academic way by intricate devices, while a silent, black-clad audience watches. Despite this danger, mortals and more often undead occasionally come to Vestige for its extensive libraries devoted to necromancy and the study of death.1
