Coath
the Black Whale (formerly)
Coath, the Wight Whale long menaced the waters off the coast of Garund but with his death he has returned, more powerful and hateful than ever.
Even before his death, Coath, then known as "the Black Whale", was a menace. Seemingly taking offence at the land-bound peoples intruding into the Arcadian Ocean, Coath used to attack any sailing vessel he came across. The dusky whale could destroy even the most heavily armed vessel and it was feared in every port along Garund's eastern coast.
A coalition of whalers based out of the pirate city of Ilizmagorti eventually lured the Black Whale into an area of sandy shallows, where they attacked it with harpoons, poison, and any other weapon they had at hand. Despite being trapped and at a clear disadvantage, Coath still killed scores of its attackers before finally succumbing to its wounds.1
Soon after, a gigantic ghost of radiant darkness was spotted near Mediogalti Island, seemingly circling the island as if hunting. Coath rose again, now known as "The Wight Whale", and then the ships began disappearing. Now, Coath hunts once more, and on moonless nights many a pirate refuses to go out on the water, insisting the once-murderous whale has now become a true spirit of hateful vengeance, one that thirsts to destroy not just its killers, but all who set sail from Ilizmagorti.1
