Incapacitation

Incapacitation is a trait of magic items or spells which signifies they are potentially lethal or disabling in some fashion, enough to quickly and permanently remove an opponent from a combat. However, if the target of such attacks is significantly more powerful than the incapacitation effect used, they have a much better chance of avoiding any consequences of the attack at all.12

Examples of such incapacitation effects range from the more benign calm spell3 to the catastrophic cursed metamorphosis spell.4
