Feather

Feathers are epidermal growths that form the distinctive outer covering, or plumage, of birds and other creatures.1 They are commonly used as a material for crafting various items, such as arrows.[citation needed]

In magic

A small piece of amber containing a piece of a feather can be imbued with magical energy to create a feather step stone talisman.2

In writing

A quill is a writing tool made from a moulted flight feather (preferably a primary wing-feather) of a large bird.3 The dryad Jathyl had a particular loathing for quills.4
