Material

From PathfinderWiki
A dwarven blacksmith crafts a warhammer from metal, a raw material.

Materials are the raw substances that compose other objects. Most items and structures are created from materials, typically by skilled workers who specialize in one of many professions dedicated to converting raw materials into functional products.1

Rare and exotic materials, such as orichalcum or dawnsilver, tend to fetch higher prices and can provide objects with unique advantages. Besides rarity, the value of materials is also based on their hardness, weight, and purity.2

Alchemists infuse their own essence into alchemical reagents, such as certain minerals, plants, chemicals, and other materials and substances, to create alchemical items such as elixirs, bombs, and other concoctions.34

In craft

Materials are the fundamental components of crafts of all natures, from artisan items to general trade goods. Blacksmiths forge weapons and armor out of metals, jewelers cut and set gemstones, and builders turn wood and stone into buildings.1

In magic

Materials are commonly used in magic, as many spells cannot be cast without them, and they are required for the crafting of magic items.5
