Sand racers are Akitonian land vehicles powered by a combination of magic and the combustible fuel thasteron. While designed for exploration of Akiton's vast deserts, these personal transports are primarily enjoyed by Akiton's most wealthy and powerful individuals, who also use them for racing.

Appearance

Sand racers are long, sleek, metal vehicles straddled by a pilot similar to a mount. A second seat for a passenger is positioned behind the pilot's. When activated, the sand racer hovers slightly over the ground, a feature that allows it to traverse over solid and liquid surfaces alike (although if stationary, the sand racer drops onto the surface and sinks if unsupported). Its exhaust emits flames when throttled.

Sand racers have a small windscreen made of crystal, but riders must typically also wear dust-protecting goggles or helmets to protect themselves from Akiton's elements. Many owners decorate their sand racers with distinctive colored paints and cosmetic accessories, often garishly so.

Features

As vehicles designed for exploration, sand racers include a cargo compartment capable of storing up to 14 days' worth of rations and a fuel storage tank for up to 14 days of travel. The fore of the vehicle contains storage for a repair kit and critical parts for emergency repairs.

Sand racers use thasteron as a propellant, and a sand racer pilot can trigger a direct injection of a day's supply of fuel into its engine to create a seconds-long reckless increase in its speed.
