The Tabletop RPG Historical Society is the nonprofit organization that operates PathfinderWiki, the Golarion map, and StarfinderWiki. The organization was founded to facilitate funding and stability as well as to create a formal legal entity that owns the sites and can enter into contracts.

Mission statement

The Tabletop RPG Historical Society seeks to maintain reference materials on TTRPGs from an in-universe perspective, preserve related real-world historical information, share that encyclopedic knowledge cost- and advertisement-free, and help reduce barriers to entry and welcome new audiences into the TTRPG hobby.

Funding and donations

The Tabletop RPG Historical Society and its websites are 100% funded by donations. This allows the websites to remain fast and free from ads. To support the work of the Society with a one-time or monthly donation, please visit the Zeffy page. Zeffy does not charge donors or recipient organizations to process gifts, so 100% of your donation supports the Society.

Operating costs (as of February 2025) are approximately $80 per month. Approximately $60 per month goes to operating the websites (servers, domain name registration, etc.) with the remainder spent on operating the nonprofit corporation (legally required local agent, government filing fees, etc.).

Prior to the formation of the TTRPG Historical Society, the funding of the Wikis was in the hands of a very few committed fans who paid the costs behind the scenes. Our deepest thanks to them!

Organizational structure

The Tabletop RPG Historical Society incorporated in the State of Washington, United States, in November 2024. Officers of the Society are listed in the navbox as "Important People".

As of February 2025, paperwork has been submitted to the US federal government for formal recognition as a tax-exempt nonprofit under Section 501(c)(3) but is still being processed. An approved application means being able to treat donations as tax-deductible (for US federal income tax purposes) from the date of founding (November 2024 in the case of the Society), but approval is still pending as of February 2025.
