Water wraiths are eight-legged aquatic lizards that are native to the Mwangi Expanse and live throughout Garund. These lizards can change color at will and often use their camouflage to lie in wait for their prey, which they attack viciously with their toothy, lamprey-like mouths. Their eight powerful legs make water wraiths equally mobile in water as on land.1

In addition to their roles as exotic pets or savage guard creatures, water wraiths have spawned numerous superstitions involving their color-changing abilities and uncanny intelligence. Some superstitions suggest the lizards turn red, the color of a feeding frenzy, when feeding on the innocent, and green if their prey has a guilty conscience.1 The Osirian town of Ziloth employs a tank of water wraiths to try accused criminals based on such a belief.2
