The scholar Zhong Shuqing of Lung Wa dreams of being transformed into a caterpillar by Desna and experiencing her own metamorphosis, life, and death. She writes a treatise on this experience after waking in which she theorizes that all things in creation, including creatures and the earth, have a soul; the work becomes a cornerstone of philosophy in Tian Xia.2
