The guardian key is a rough stone key that originally allowed the bearer to control unlimited numbers of clockwork creatures. However, once Xin used the key to build his clockwork reliquary, the key's power was diminished. Now, only one clockwork can be controlled at a time. However, using the key to wind the clockwork provides healing to the clockwork, allows it to remain active for an extended period of time, and improves its skill in battle. To control a clockwork, the bearer must touch it with the key and be able to give commands in Thassilonian.
