Hellstorm Flume

From PathfinderWiki
(Redirected from Hellfire Flume)

The Hellstorm Flumes1 were defensive watchtowers built on the orders of the ancient Thassilonian Runelord of Wrath Alaznist as a defensive line for her realm of Bakrakhan against her rival Karzoug's nation of Shalast.2 They were built along what is now known as the Rasp in modern Varisia.3

Alaznist created the first Flume in -5720 AR, at the location of what is today the town of Sandpoint.4 Each Flume was powered by a vortex of magical fire at its peak that the tower's commander could direct into a scorching weapon capable of striking armies from miles away. The towers' effects were balanced by Karzoug's Sentinel Statues, which similarly deterred Alaznist from invading Shalast.3

Most of the Flumes were destroyed, along with Thassilon itself, by Earthfall. The Starstone's impact caused most of the Flumes to fall into the rising sea, leaving only two Flumes above water and one partially intact.32 Most knowledge about the Flumes were lost to history, with only Varisian folk tales preserving stories of towers that once rained fire on their surroundings.3
