Su (person)
Dowager Su was a ruler of an ancient nation in central Tian Xia but is better known as the First Empress of Yixing, a retroactive title declared by her adoptive son. Her birth marks year 1 on the Imperial Calendar, as well as the start of the Age of Ascendancy.2
Background
With no biological children of her own, the dowager ruler adopted a rising star climbing her nation's military ranks—Aolin—as her son. This skilled combatant was a sovereign dragon in his human guise and remained Su's only heir upon her death in 88 IC. It was only after her death that Aolin titled her First Empress of Yixing and set Yixing's founding year, as well as the first year of the Imperial Calendar, to her birth year.1 This was done to honor his late stepmother but was also for Aolin's own political machinations.2
Legacy
Su's adopted heir continued to rule Yixing—now remembered as the greatest human empire of Tian Xia—for five millennia.3 The Imperial Calendar continues to be the most commonly used calendar in Tian Xia.4
