Ethnicity

I'm unsure how to handle aiuvarin ethnicities. Most aiuvarin characters appear to have no clearly defined ethnicity, however, Fola Barun, for example, is described in Pathfinder Society Guide as "an Ekujae half-elf born to an Ekujae mother and Mwangi father." This seems to imply that the elven ethnicity overrides the human ethnicity, resulting in the character being categorized under Category:Ekujae/Members, but not Category:Mwangi.

Meanwhile, Alaeh A'kaan is simply described as "native to Garund" in City of Strangers, resulting in the more broad Garundi ethnicity being assigned in his article. Using broad, continent based ethnicities generally seems like a safe bet that would almost always cover both the human and elven ethnicities of the parents.

Seltyiel, on the other hand, is very clearly described as being born to a Taldan (formerly Chelaxian) human woman, yet I'm unaware what the ethnicity of the elven father is. Does this mean Seltyiel should be categorized as Taldan (formerly Chelaxian), not categorized under any ethnicity because the preferential elven ethnicity is unknown, or not categorized simply based on the fact that his ethnicity is not clearly defined in any canon source the way Fola Braun is?

Some form of standardization regarding aiuvarin, and dromaar character ethnicities for that matter, would be helpful. --Rexert (talk) 14:44, 5 April 2025 (UTC)Reply[reply]

I don't think standardization will happen here, sorry, since Paizo doesn't standardize how they talk about the human or elven parentage of aiuvarins.
I removed the ethnicity cat from Alaeh A'kaan as it presumes "native to Garund" in the source means he is Garundi; this is an inaccurate assumption, as there are many ethnicities among people native to Garund.
Proposing that we assign continent-based ethnicities to characters is such an incredibly fraught suggestion and I don't have the time or energy to say anything more than absolutely not, hell no, never. -Oznogon (talk) 03:01, 7 April 2025 (UTC)Reply[reply]
Alright, I'll avoid adding ethnicity categories to aiuvarin and dromaar characters unless they're explicitly stated as with Fola Barun. --Rexert (talk) 04:04, 7 April 2025 (UTC)Reply[reply]
