Talk:Great Old One
References Requested
Out of curiosity, where can the references to Shub-Niggurath and Nyarlathotep be found? Dany.morin 21:33, September 19, 2010 (UTC)
- As you may know, the Great Old Ones are taken directly from the writing of H.P. Lovecraft, and are used more for flavor in the Golarion setting than as actual monsters or deities that are actively worshiped. In that world they dwell in the Dark Tapestry, and have very little to do with Golarion (which is a good thing). Neither Shub-Niggurath or Nyarlathotep has been detailed in Paizo's publications. --brandingopportunity 10:23, September 20, 2010 (UTC)
- Ok. It's just that without any mention in Paizo's publications, it's a little premature to assume that they exist in Pathfinder. And it could even confuse people (like me) who think that there are references to them in one of the publications... Dany.morin 16:03, September 20, 2010 (UTC)
OK, for the record, Yog-Sothoth is mentioned in Carrion Hill, Into the Darklands, Dungeon Denizens Revisited, Rivers Run Red, and Fortress of the Stone Giants. Shub-Niggurath is mentioned in Dungeon Denizens Revisited. Nyarlathotep is mentioned in Fortress of the Stone Giants and Skeletons of Scarwall. No page numbers or context on those, they just turned up in a search of my Paizo PDFs. Moreover, James has mentioned several times (like here) that they exist. However, it is true that that last paragraph has no citations... which I will remedy shortly. —aeakett 17:00, September 20, 2010 (UTC)
- Great! Well problem solved. Thanks for the info, so it makes sense to include them.Dany.morin 17:53, September 20, 2010 (UTC)
- Cthulhu, for example, will never appear in Golarion, as he is imprisoned in Earth. But many of the Great Old Ones who are not cemented within the mythos in a specific terrestrial location can (and probably will eventually) show up. —yoda8myhead 19:41, September 20, 2010 (UTC)
- There is a section in Faiths of Corruption that deals with the Great Old Ones. —This unsigned post was made by FaithfulofAroden at October 26, 2011. Please sign all posts with ~~~~.
