Talk:Kenabres/Conflicts

From PathfinderWiki

Position

Published maps conflict on the position of Kenabres relative to the Sarkoris Scar/Worldwound, the West Sellen River, Drezen, and Star Keep.

  • The city maps in The Worldwound Incursion 26 and 68 depict Kenabres as being on the eastern banks of the West Sellen River.
    • The text of The Worldwound Incursion 69 describes Kenabres as being built on "a series of graduated tiers that rise from the plains to the east to ta cliff's edge in the west. At the base of the cliff, the West Sellen River roars past". This is consistent with mapped depictions of the city being on the eastern banks of the West Sellen.
  • The Overland Locations map of the Mendev/Worldwound border in Sword of Valor 12 depicts Kenabres as being on the east banks of the West Sellen River, on the southern point of the beginning of a large semi-circular bend in the river. Valas's Gift is depicted as being 20 miles north-northeast, at the northern end of the bend. A riverbed confluence is depicted about 130 miles north-northeast of Kenabres, with Drezen located to the west near the end of that riverbed. The distances of each are meaningful to encounters along the route from Kenabres to Drezen.
  • The World Guide poster map depicts the semicircular bend in the West Sellen, but positions Kenabres near the opposite western bank of the river about 100 miles to the south-southwest of its position in The Worldwound Incursion.
    • This map also depicts Drezen as being further south of the riverbed than depicted in The Worldwound Incursion, The Worldwound, and Inner Sea World Guide maps.
    • This position of Kenabres places it across the West Sellen river from Star Keep, which I couldn't find a depiction of in a Lost Omens map and on other maps is depicted as being about 100 miles southwest of Kenabres.

To maintain consistency with works where specific distances between Kenabres, Valar's Gift, and Drezen are intentionally detailed, the wiki map uses its position as depicted in The Worldwound Incursion et al. This is in exception to the canon policy, which should prefer the World Guide position, making this an irreconcilable canon conflict barring official clarification. -Oznogon (talk) 15:54, 27 September 2024 (UTC)
