Death

Player characters in Second Darkness fight and might be able to kill Saul Vancaskerkin during the campaign's events set in 4708 AR. However, Runeplague pg. 63, published in 2018 (4718 AR by publication date), suggests Saul could have survived the campaign's events and might serve as a replacement for Clegg Zincher should he have been killed by players during Second Darkness.

Furthermore, on December 9, 2023, James Jacobs clarified that "none of (the Vancaskerkins) are officially considered dead yet, since we haven't yet done an adventure in which a previously established Vancaskerkin plays a role and are unlikely to do so, since that's not the way we do things with the Vancaskerkins."
