Talk:Sihedron medallion

From PathfinderWiki

I am not sure why "medallion" was decapitalized (if that's even a word). All magic item names are proper nouns, aren't they? brandingopportunity 14:30, 29 May 2009 (UTC)

I don't believe that they are, at least not for the purposes of the wiki. If an item isn't unique or part of a specific and limited group, I think they should be treated as generic nouns. In game rule text I understand that they are often capitalized to distinguish them as magical, but they're also italicized and we don't do that either. The flow of text in an article is much smoother the less capitalized words there are. All that said, we don't have a specific policy or guideline yet for naming of magic item articles in particular aside from the general naming conventions. --yoda8myhead 14:34, 29 May 2009 (UTC)
Hmm, just seems a bit counterintuitive to me, as magic items have always had all significant words in caps. For instance: Boots of Striding and Springing, Rod of Lordly Might, or Staff of Power. Boots of striding and springing just doesn't look right to me, but perhaps that is just me. brandingopportunity 14:40, 29 May 2009 (UTC)
When these appear in fiction do they maintain this convention, or just in game supplements? I would defer to how it's handled in fiction, as it's a more "pure" version of the world, untainted by the conventions of the game itself. --yoda8myhead 14:44, 29 May 2009 (UTC)
Checked a few sources for "rod of lordly might" and I think you're right, Mark. BTW, wasn't aware that "rod of lordly might" had moved from geekspeak into the general euphemistic parlance. :) brandingopportunity 14:56, 29 May 2009 (UTC)
It's good to know that I can now use that term in mixed company. As for our stance on this going forward, I'll add some clarification to the naming conventions. --yoda8myhead 15:18, 29 May 2009 (UTC)
