Nivi Rhombodazzle
Alternate: Confidence, earth
Nivi Rhombodazzle is the only gnomish racial deity, though she is primarily revered among subterranean gnomes known as drathnelars, or umbral gnomes,1 who live in the Darklands.234
History
Nivi was once an ordinary mortal gnome with a penchant for gambling and games of chance. She was not addicted to winning so much as playing the game. Unfortunately, this attitude led her to owe a lot of money to a lot of people, which eventually forced her to flee from some of her more powerful creditors.
She eventually found her way into the Darklands, where she was amazed by the wonders and incredible sights contained therein. She became the first gnome to stave off the effects of the Bleaching by fully embracing her new life below the surface of Golarion.24
She traded a special gem to Torag in exchange for becoming a demigoddess.567✝ As a result, she became the first umbral gnome and is considered the mother of their race.48
Myths
Scholars have speculated that Nivi Rhombodazzle is somehow responsible for the population of gnomes native to the Universe. One theory suggests the first such gnomes were tricked into passing through a temporary breach from the First World, and the culprit might have been Nivi.9
Realm
Nivi makes her home on the Plane of Earth due to her love for caves and the subterranean. However, she does not keep a permanent Nivian realm, instead, she takes up temporary residences in massive, jewel-studded caverns deep within the Eternal Delve or in the Universe in between extended journeys in search of perfect gemstones and high-stakes gambling.1011
Appearance
She is depicted as an umbral gnome with eyes that glimmer like gemstones.24
Planar allies
Nivi's herald is Seven-Eyes, a living magical die that has been a companion to Nivi since her mortal time. Seven-Eyes is the model for Nivian religious symbols.11
She is also served by Quiet, a powerful umbral gnome rogue rumored by some to be one of Nivi's relatives during her mortal life, and by others to be her infamous creditor. Another powerful ally is the humorous mole-like earth elemental called Rummbrrlar, a unique creature with a body of pure diamond who can change size.11
Followers
Nivi is widely worshiped among umbral gnomes, but a smaller population of surface gnomes—most of whom are adventurers who regularly deal with umbral gnomes—even know of her divinity.124 Gnomes in danger of succumbing to the bleaching might also follow Nivi in hopes of finding inspiration in pursuit of chance. Gamblers and other roguish folk of any race might also carry her religious symbol in homage to her, if not in worship.4
Her followers might also carry a rhombocrystal, a magical color-shifting lens.1314
Church
Nivi is a goddess of community, and her worshipers organize into tight-knit, distinct groups with their own greetings and traditions. Among her churches are the Cult of the Shining Diamond and the Blue Twilight.8
Religious symbol
Her religious symbol is a gemstone cut into the shape of a six-sided die with seven pips on one side.24
