4723 AR Avistan Basilisk League Championship

The 4723 AR Avistan Basilisk League Championship was a Basilisk team ball-sports championship match that concluded the Avistan Basilisk League's 4723 AR season. The Riddleport Rollers of Riddleport, Varisia, were crowned champions over the Merab Vultures of Merab, Thuvia, in an upset victory that dramatically escalated a rivalry between the two teams.1
Background
According to Riddleport-based gambling writer "Tall Otto" Talbus as of 4722 AR, the Rollers had long been derided as a hapless, perpetually losing, but locally popular team under owner Clegg Zincher.2 The Vultures were relative newcomers to the league, which despite its name's reference to Avistan had recently expanded into northern Garund.3
In 4722 AR, the Rollers traded with the Vultures to acquire Yima "No Eyes" Vitton, a skilled goal-scoring player at the guide position.4 The transaction stoked a nascent rivalry between the teams as Vultures fans considered Vitton's move to be "traitorous". Later that season, Golarion's Finest Books and Travelogues correspondent Pallomar Gladhammer reported on a match between Riddleport and Merab, but was forced to leave by local authorities before witnessing the result.5
Result
The Vultures unexpectedly lost the championship match to Riddleport, leading to widespread discontent among Merab's fanbase. Extremists amongst the Vultures' fans blamed Gladhammer for the loss and threatened violence against him, which forced him to employ Pathfinders as protection via the patronage of Zarta Dralneen upon an unrelated return visit to Merab in 4724 AR.67
