Bog mummies—variously also known as swamp mummies, peat mummies, or mire mummies—are organically occurring mummies whose bodies are preserved not through an intentional mummification process but by the natural properties of a bog or swamp. Most animate as disease-carrying undead out of a sense of betrayal or some other unfinished business.
