Bog mummies—variously also known as swamp mummies,1[citation needed] peat mummies, or mire mummies—are organically occurring mummies whose bodies are preserved not through an intentional mummification process but by the natural properties of a bog or swamp. Most animate as disease-carrying undead out of a sense of betrayal or some other unfinished business.2
