Category talk:Deities by power level
OK - what makes a deity major or minor? I thought (incorrectly) that if one had 5 domains, it was major. Is major vs. minor a canon distinction or ours? I've been adding the Osirian pantheon as major, which may be in error. I'd appreciate any insight. -- FoiledAgain (talk) 01:09, 20 April 2014 (UTC)
- I was under the impression that the 20 core deities from Core Rulebook are major and almost all others are minor (with the Dragon Empires Gazetteer deities in an uncomfortable middle-ground). All "true" deities have 5 domains, while demigods are limited to 4.--Filby (talk) 04:04, 20 April 2014 (UTC)
Use these as a guide on this wiki, FoiledAgain:
- Portal:Religion/Pantheons: the higher level listing show major, minor, demigods and dead gods.
- Template:Deities navbox is also useful but does use different terminology, now I look at it, presumably for historical purposes.
They should be consistent and accurate as they are checked reasonably regularly. Filby is correct that 'major' refers to the gods most worshipped in a particular area and so far we have seen what these are for the Inner Sea region and Tian Xia. We should probably expect one day a list of the major gods in Vudraa, for instance, to add to the list. Thus major / minor doesn't affect domains directly with a full god seeming to get five, while a demigod gets four - again as Filby stated above. I have no reference for this to hand though. The publication of Inner Sea Gods may help with this and should be used to refresh portal and template alike. Your question re the Osirian gods is interesting as they are geographically important in Osirion. I am afraid I have read none of this material so will have to let others comment there. Note neither portal nor template have those deities yet.
aThis may turn out one day to be a bad example but it makes the point today.
