Elth Hammerson was a Sarenite cleric and a companion of Karas Novotnian, whom he joined in traveling to Darkmoon Vale in 4113 AR to establish Chelaxian control over the region. He died while defending the young soldier Ponchus Kaiseva from a chimera, an act of bravery that was posthumously recognized by Almas's Sarenite high priest by granting Hammerson sainthood, and he is now known as St. Elth.12

Background

During his expedition, Novotnian led his troops—including Hammerson and Kaiseva—into the badlands between the Wolfrun Hills, where they faced waves of dire wolves, chimeras, and other powerful threats and were forced to retreat to a sheltered grotto.

An especially strong chimera attacked the sheltering troop, pinned Kaiseva down, and began rending his armor. Hammerson intervened to spare enough time for others to pull Kaiseva to safety, but while directing the rescue Hammerson was himself struck down by the chimera. Novotnian buried Hammerson in the grotto, and later established a Sarenite shrine and eventually also a large statue depicting Hammerson's act of bravery at the site.2

Legacy

Inspired by St. Elth's sacrifice, Kaiseva took up the faith of Sarenrae and later became a paladin of the Dawnflower. He later started a family, and his descendants have since also served as soldiers in Darkmoon Vale, including Aurore Kaiseva as of 4708 AR.2

His spirit appears at the grotto of St. Elth annually on his death's anniversary in hopes of seeing a living descendant of Kaiseva visiting his shrine, but he reacts to visitors only to smile at other Sarenite clerics.12

As of 4708 AR, his spirit seemed to appear more melancholy than in past appearances.12 His malaise seemed to be related to Aurore's lycanthropy, to which she had not completely fallen at the time.2
