Not to be confused with a gravebound warden.

Gravebound1 are undead who form from people who were buried alive. Rather than reviving in their bodies, they animate the grave dirt in which they were buried.2

Appearance

A gravebound resembles a humanoid with pits for eyes and long clawed fingers.2

Abilities

Gravebound can rapidly transform a patch of ground into a 10-foot-deep grave of soft soil. It can also quickly fill the graves that it creates, and actively seeks to drag living creatures into these graves to bury them alive.

A gravebound's claws transmit a disease known as false death, which can make an afflicted being become comatose. Their coma so closely resembles death that many inexperienced healers who examine the body might mistake the victim for a corpse. While the disease passes within a week, by that point the victim might have already been buried alive by others.

Gravebound can burrow through the soil and are inherently amorphous, but are bound to their gravesite and cannot travel more than 1,000 feet from it. The presence of consecrated ground also weakens them.2

On Golarion

The Whispering Tyrant Tar-Baphon sometimes buried his victims alive in order for them to rise as gravebound in his service.3
