Hangman trees are carnivorous, forest-dwelling plants that hunt by rooting themselves near remote trails and ambushing creatures that pass by them. They produce hallucinogenic pollen that lulls prey into believing they are benign trees before lashing out with vines to ensnare the prey, lift it high in the air, and suffocate it to death. Hangman trees can consume only one victim at a time, but hang multiple victims from their snares in a grisly larder to store them until they ripen.1
