Hangman trees are carnivorous, forest-dwelling plants that hunt by rooting themselves near remote trails and ambushing creatures that pass by them. When prey approaches, a hangman tree lashes out with its vines to ensnare the prey and lifts it high in the air to suffocate it to death. Hangman trees can go for very long periods without food and often allow multiple victims to hang from their snares in a grisly larder, storing them until such a time as they decide to eat them.
