Kamraten Khemkaeng, Wise Tiger Lord of Surat Prakan (pronounced Kem-Kang,2 and sometimes spelled Khemkhaeng3), started his ten-year rule as kamraten (ruler) of the nation of Tang Mai4 in Tian Xia in 4709 AR.5

As with all five lords of Tang Mai, Khemkaeng is a powerful sorcerer, although his power is no longer derived from a single bloodline. As is tradition, going back for over a millennia before its conquest by Imperial Lung Wa, the kamraten of Tang Mai sits atop the Cinnamon Throne allowing Khemkaeng to combine the powers of the four other lords' sorcerous bloodlines into one. The position of kamraten changes every ten years with a new lord ascending to the position. However, the previous kamraten, Tok Wayra, also known as the Lord of Bats, used political scheming to delay his removal for an entire year.3
