Pesh paste
Pesh paste is a weaker, less addictive form of pesh than the refined product sold on the order of the Pactmasters of Katapesh. Traditionally formulated in Badawi villages of Katapesh's hinterlands, pesh paste is used to brew tea, as an ingredient in cuisine, or as a recreational drug that invokes mild stimulation and hallucinations. It is approximately as addictive as coffee, and as escaped slaves learned when taking refuge among Badawi villages, its properties also allow it to be used medicinally to treat advanced addictions to refined pesh.1
The Pactmasters took notice of the growing trade of non-addictive forms of pesh and criminalized all non-regulated pesh sales, then sent mercenaries to attack Badawi pesh farmers; however, the Badawi and their allies among Katapesh's freed slaves unexpectedly won the first battle and immediately joined the Firebrands as first-mark members.2 The growing uprising this sparked has been referred to as the Katapeshi Revolt.3
