Poor Eledia is an Isgeri orphan who was killed by Mother Comfort, the patron of the orphanage where she was staying, only to return as an attic whisperer and drive her killer to suicide. Both now haunt the abandoned orphanage. Poor Eledia courts beggar children with toys and nursery rhymes, stealing their breath and voices when they are asleep, and comforts herself with their voices when she is alone. She wishes for a living family to keep her company, something Mother Comfort would never allow.12

Background

When Eledia was five years old, her father was killed in action in the Goblinblood Wars. When the goblins came to her homestead, they fed her mother to their goblin dogs, but Eledia survived by hiding under the floorboards. She eventually left her hiding place out of hunger and joined the stream of refugees making their way south. At the town of Haugin's Ear, she was handed to Mother Comfort's Orphanage.1

Soon enough, Eledia drew Mother Comfort's wrath and was locked in the 'bad box' like any other children who erred. However, while the others were old enough to cultivate hatred for Mother Comfort, Eledia could not stop crying, and the noise made it difficult for Mother Comfort to sleep. However, Eledia's sobs only further enraged Mother Comfort, to the point that she left the box locked for eleven days, creating the attic whisperer called Poor Eledia.1

However, Mother Comfort kept hearing Eledia's sobs, which snapped at her mind. Eventually, she killed herself by burning the house down. Some of the older children managed to put out the fire and save the building but not Mother Comfort, who was transformed into an allip and has been haunting the abandoned orphanage alongside Poor Eledia to this day.12
