Talk:Puffin

From PathfinderWiki

Do we really need an article about puffins? They are the same on Golarion than they are in the real world, and thus don't really fall within the Scope of the projectPaizo Publishing, LLC.png Yoda8myhead (talk) 00:37, 24 June 2013 (UTC)

I actually did look at the scope document today and included it under the "what it is used for in the setting" criteria. I default to adding everything that is in the Golarion-specific products, but I'm okay with removing it. Just by me looking it up tells me I was on the fence about adding it and the other winter-specific familiars as well). Would we then apply this decision to all common animal familiars? -- FoiledAgain (talk) 01:58, 24 June 2013 (UTC)
My feeling on it is to make an article on familiars, and list there what are common familiars (from the Core Rulebook and Ultimate Magic) and then similar articles on Cold-climate familiars, aquatic familiars, etc. using the same format. This keeps the article fully couched in the context of how these otherwise normal animals are different in the campaign setting than the real world.—Paizo Publishing, LLC.png Yoda8myhead (talk) 04:39, 24 June 2013 (UTC)
Then again, once I saw that familiar already exists, that article is really well-done. I just wonder if we need all the lists of each of the creatures to be its own article. In the long run, it's probably more work to consolidate those individual articles into a master article, so since it's already got so much done under the existing format, I rescind my previous suggestion. We should just go with things as they are.—Paizo Publishing, LLC.png Yoda8myhead (talk) 04:42, 24 June 2013 (UTC)
For what it's worth, I agree that it should remain its own page. While there isn't *much* Golarion specific in this article yet, I'd rather have it there and ready rather than have it built in the familiar article and then have to split it later when more Golarion flavor, such as what area of the world they are native to and such is getting added.
It's one of the things I've struggled with on some of the books, 'is there enough information for its own page, or should it just be in the List of works page? I tend to use the three sentence rule - As long as you can put 3 sentences or more about a topic, it is ok as an article. -- Cpt kirstov (talk) 05:41, 24 June 2013 (UTC)
