Seven Year War

There are several internal discrepancies in the events surrounding Lung Wa's conquering of Tang Mai.

The timeline on Tian Xia World Guide 9 states that Lung Wa initiated the Seven Year War in 6980 IC to conquer Tang Mai, then collapsed in 7106 IC. Depending on whether the timeline year indicates the start or end of the Seven Year War, this span might be 119 or 126 years.

The text of Tian Xia World Guide 209 states describes seven successive invasions of Tang Mai by Lung Wa, with Tang Mai falling after the seventh, but does not name these the Seven Year War or confirm a timespan over which the seven invasions occurred. Tian Xia World Guide 209 also states that Lung Wa collapsed "only two decades" after the last invasion, which is incongruous with any interpretation of the timeline on 9.

Much of this text seems adapted from Dragon Empires Gazetteer 22, which states that Lung Wa attempted multiple (but uncounted) failed invasions of Dtang Ma before winning a final seven-year-long war. Dragon Empires Gazetteer 22 also states that Lung Wa fell "only 2 decades" after being conquered. The timeline on Dragon Empires Gazetteer 17 similarly disagrees, dating Lung Wa's first invasion attempt to 6932 IC, the Seven Year War beginning in 6980 IC and ending in 6987 IC with Dtang Ma being conquered by Lung Wa, and Lung Wa collapsing 119 years later in 7106 IC.

The most consistent interpretation seems to be:

  • Disregard all mentions of Lung Wa's rule lasting "two decades" as a persistent error copied from the text of Dragon Empires Gazetteer to the text of Tian Xia World Guide.
  • Align on the timeline of the Seven Year War beginning in 6980 IC per both sources, and ending in 6987 IC per Dragon Empires Gazetteer.
  • Align on the fall of Lung Wa coinciding with the death of Aroden in 7106 IC per both sources.
  • Interpret the mention of seven successive invasion attempts in Tian Xia World Guide as occurring within the Dragon Empires Gazetteer timeframe between 6932 IC and the Seven Year War in 6980–6987 IC.

Bloodlines

The sorcerous bloodlines of Tang Mai were changed from stormborn, fey, starsoul, and maestro in Dragon Empires Gazetteer 22 to imperial, draconic, psychopomp, and nymph in Tian Xia World Guide 214. This seems to be a retroactive change but is not confirmed as such. -Oznogon (talk) 18:45, 1 June 2024 (UTC)

Term length

The term length of the title of Kamraten was changed from ten years in Dragon Empires Gazetteer 22 to five years in Tian Xia World Guide 209 and 214. This seems to be a retroactive change but is not confirmed as such.

If retroactive, this has additional canon impacts on:

  • Kamraten
  • Tok Wayra, noted for serving 11 years of a 10-year term
  • Khemkaeng, who (as Khemkhaeng) in Dragon Empires Gazetteer had served 2 years of a 10-year term as of 4711 AR by publication date, and should not still hold the title of Kamraten or have regained it as of 4724 AR by either term length, yet is the serving Kamraten per Tian Xia World Guide 214–215, which does not indicate when Khemkaeng took office.
