Guidelines for living creatures that become undead

For the purposes of this wiki, a living creature who dies and becomes an undead creature is considered to be dead for the purposes of categorization. If that undead creature has a {{Person}} infobox, for example, fill in its death parameter with a date or event marking its death (if known) and categorize it appropriately (such as in Category:Deceased inhabitants) even if its undead incarnation has not yet been destroyed.

Note that this applies almost exclusively to undead creatures. (Exceptions include other more rare cases of metaphysical transformation, such as a mortal who dies and becomes an outsider but retains their mortal identity after death.) A mortal creature that dies and is resurrected, or even reincarnated, and remains mortal should note that event in its life within the article content but should otherwise not be treated as having died.

The destruction of an undead creature is separate from the death of its previously mortal form, and has its own parameter in the {{Person}} infobox (destroyed).

For creatures and individuals whose status isn't easily discerned from these guidelines, please ask on its Talk page or the Discord chat. -Oznogon (talk) 22:33, 9 November 2018 (UTC)
