Tixitog
Tixitogs are a distinctive species of sapient aberration that inhabit the dens of giant spiders.1
Appearance
The elongated body of a tixitog is coated in a transparent slime and features eight multi-jointed limbs, four of which are inverted and oriented upwards. This configuration enables tixitogs to navigate the ceilings and floors of narrow caves and fit through confined spaces. It has three large eyes colored black. Its jaws can peel and expand dramatically when opened to expose numerous pointed teeth and an unusually long tongue, but appear small and tubular when closed.1
Abilities
Tixitogs are immune to poison and can traverse sticky webs due to the thick, transparent slime that covers their bodies. A tixitog can use its tongue to grab and pull smaller creatures into its mouth before swallowing them whole.1
Tixitogs are long-lived creatures with enough intelligence to retain knowledge and communicate, and can often speak simply in a Common tongue.1
Ecology
Tixitogs use their abilities to steal food cocooned within spiderwebs and hunt spiders, though they hunt with enough care to avoid exhausting their supply of prey. However, they prefer to eat adventurers or cave explorers who inadvertently enter their nests.
Spiders quickly abandon their lairs rather than fight a discovered tixitog, so these creatures typically conceal themselves from being discovered. Tixitogs also exploit this behavior to manipulate the movements of spider swarms, a phenomenon that poses significant risks to adventurers who, in the ensuing chaos of a spider swarm, often overlook the more formidable threat posed by the approaching tixitog.
When a tixitog is defeated, it typically attempts to negotiate its survival by offering its attackers information or its services in herding spiders.1
